With two new babies in my family on the horizon I began to pour over all the cute, cuddly baby pins on pinterest.
Rewind 3years ago when I was pregnant with my son, I was on bed rest and bored as bored can be. I attempted to teach myself to crochet. My grandmother has taught me how to knit, not purl, and I was never able to complete anything other than a scarf for my cat. As my cats closet grew I really needed to learn to crochet. My first venture failed and quite miserably at that-it was lopsided. Every attempt left it more lopsided than before so I tossed my hooks in with the random other failed crafts tote. As we moved 3 times I would always go through the tote gaze longingly at the hooks and yarn and move on but I never threw them out.
Now a few month ago I set my mind to it. I examined all the tutorials and got to it. I started out small. Learning the basics from this goddess amongst women. Without a doubt this was the only tutorial that I could wrap my head around. I moved on to baby shoes but only rights. That’s right I only successfully finish the right shoe. So I showered my niece with right shoes. I am still not great, I just completed my first only kind of lopsided blanket.
Despite my lack of skill I have found crocheting to be quite calming for my type A self. With my hometown going up in flames last week I spent my nights listening to the news and fire scanner and crocheting. This is what I produced-
