Smudge sticks originate with the Native Americans traditionally used in ceremonies to cleanse people and places. Though there are many modern day incarnations There are many resources about the traditional aspects to the new agey beliefs. They can be found everywhere from the Native American Tourist shops to head shops to a New Age store. I prefer to make my own for the same reason I grow our veggies, I know where it has been. In my house we use it when we move the furniture, open the windows for springs or put up Christmas decorations, the way some use incense or a candle. This summer has brought an abundance of sage and rosemary in my lil urban garden so here is the uber simple way I make our sage bundles. Remember use 100% cotton thread and not all herbs should be burned as the smoke could be noxious.
